Maths Consolidation

You need to use 2 different strategies to answer the following questions:

4 X 10 = 40
7.0 - 3.25= 4.25

5.75 - 3.51 =1.24

241 - 68 = 173

312 - 56 =256

173 - 67 =106             JANISE  RAMON DEL GLORIA ANISHA AND Allanah

56 x 5 = 280

42 x 6 = 252

40 X 6 = 240

2 X 5 = 10

9.0 - 4.73 = 5.73

6.0 - 2.56 = 4.56

Use two different strategies to answer the following questions

There are 24 ladybugs on six leaves. How many ladybugs are on each leaf?  4

To fill one jug it takes 3 litres. How many jugs can I fill with 21 litres? 7

To fill a bucket is takes 8 litres. How many buckets can I fill with 56 litres? 7

Bats see with their ears

Introduction:
Bats don’t have to have eyes to see because they can see with their ears. The reason why they see with their ears is because they use echolocation to help them hunt for food and to avoid blocks in their way as they fly in the dark. Echolocation can be used differently because bats use echolocation to help them hunt for food and some other animals like wales use echolocation to communicate.

Bat use a special sound to help with their way in the dark.
For an example: The bats are flying and they accidentally bumped into something and then thats when bats use their special sound to find their way in the dark so they won’t bump into something again.
Bats are not the only ones that use this kind of way, there are also dolphins, rats and whales but they use it in a different way but they still see with their ears but use an different way of echolocation.

Conclusion:

Echolocation can be helpful with animals that use their ears to see. Bats use echolocation to help them avoid stuff in their way, Whales use echolocation to communicate with each other. Not like other animals like dogs they use their eyes to see and use their eyes to hear.

Popplet For Plastic Bag

Plastic bag

Referring to the image on the first page what does the expression on the boys face tell us? He is going to fall and he looks scared he is going to fall into something.
What do you think might happen to him in the story? He is lonely  with his only one friend and his or her friend is always giving him something.
What do you think the title has to do with the story? He is always using a plastic bag to school or going to school with a plastic bag as his school bag.

Why does Miss Anderson think Trent has been mucking about? His friend Jason told him an lates joke to him and he laughed. Then Mrs Anderson has had enough of so Mrs Anderson sent him out, and as he was walking out he slipped because someones sweat-shirt was on the ground and Mrs Anderson thought he was mucking around again.

Why do you think he was dizzy as he went out of the classroom? Because on his way out he slipped on someones sweatshirt.

What were the differences between Huia and Trent’s bags and Jason’s? Trent and Huia school bags were plastic bags and Jason school bag was a proper school bag. What do you think about the reason for the differences? Trent and Huia brought a plastic bag to school because maybe they couldn’t afford one and Jason has a school bag because she can afford one.

What did Trent expect to happen when he went to the principal’s office? To discuss his behavior to the principal so the principal will understand why he is like that.

How do you think Trent felt when he found out the real reason for going to the principal’s office? He’ll represent the whole school, and he will even have to do extra maths homework.

How do you think Trent felt at the end of the story, why? He didn’t feel embarrassed anymore with his plastic bag as his school bag and show his school bag.

Have you ever been really hungry? Yes when I was at my brothers rugby game and I forgot to take some snacks with me. How did it make you feel? Sort of sick especially when the air is hot and warm.

Trip to the science road show at Tamaki College

We went to Tamaki College for an science road show. The funny one was when we had to cover our ears just in case something might happen, they were going to blow up the balloon but when they did it, it wasn't even loud but it was just an practice. But for the real one mostly everyone didn’t want to cover their ears because they might just be joking around again, but when it blowed up it was loud as.Screen Shot 2014-05-26 at 2.41.46 pm.png

After that we got a card so we can achieve a gift. Mostly of the stuff I went to I didn’t get it but the one I like most was piano one when you stand on it, it makes a note. After when we finished looking at the other stuff we went back to see other stuff that the people were going to show us. The most cool one they showed us was when they puted a balloon dog into a bowl and then poured this kind of water in. After that when the lady went get the dog out it was all shrieked but when she blows it, it comes back to life. When the tall man came everyone was like “ WOW hes tall.”

At the end they were showing us what was in our body and it looked yuck and then the tall man pulled something out and it was poo and it was funny and yuck and then we pulled out a bigger pile of poo and everyone was laughing and then it was finish.

Sound Explanation

Intro

Our inquiry topic for term two is about sound. You can make sound with your body by clapping, stomping and whistling with your lips. Sound happens quickly. When you hear something like a car door slam sound waves travels to your ear and goes to your brain and once you hear that same sound again you will be able to remember that sound.

Sound wave travels to our ear and then to our brain. Sound happens quickly. The sound that we hear will be in our brain, so when we hear it again we will be able to remember that sound. Vibration is made when something is moved. Sound makes the air move so the is sound wave.

Once something is hit, it vibrates through the air and so that is called sound wave, sound wave is something you can’t see but the sound wave travels to your ear so you will be able to hear. All sounds start with vibrations. The sounds I make begin with vibrations in my throat. Strong bands of power called vocal cords start shaking and moving.
Sound wave is move in all directions, bouncing off, moving through or being suck up by anything that gets in the way like trees, rocks anything. All the bouncing can change. The back and forth vibration create waves.  Vibration: sound is made once you hit something. Sound wave: sound wave begins once you talk or move. You can also make sound. You can make all kind of sound by moving your body and you can use your voice to sing, whisper or shout. You can also stomp your feet and clap your hand. The back and forth motion of the vibration create waves so that means the back and forth motion is creating sound wave.

Conclusion
Imagine if nobody can hear what would it be like it will probably be really boring to me. My class and I had tried out a telephone cup experiment it was really phone and when we talk to each other the sound wave travels through the string and then to your ear, but with different strings and we were able to hear each other.
