Cup experiment

Name: Ramonadel and Anisha

Title of experiment: Using a cup as a telephone experiment.Screen Shot 2014-05-15 at 1.32.53 pm.png

Question:
(What did we want to find out?)
First we were given a plastic cup with a thin string and a pin and a ice block stick broke in to half. First we had to poke a small hole at the bottom of the cup and then put the string through and tied it to the stick so the string won’t come off. After that we had to spread out and talk to each other, the other person talk and the other person puts their cup next to their ear so they will listen to what you are saying. After that we moved on to the will string which felt like a thick rope, then we had to make the hole bigger so the string so we will be able to put the string through, after that we tested out is we could hear each other and we could just not really clearly. But once we have finished with the wool string we moved on to the thick string. The thick string couldn’t fit the through the cup so then we made the whole bigger and then we sticked the string through the cup and then tied it to the stick after that we tested it out if we could hear each other and we did but again not clearly.

Hypothesis:  (what do you think will happen?)
I think that when we try out the cup experiment we could hear each other clearly but if we don’t speak loud we won’t barely hear each other. I think we would hear each other with the wool string because it is more thicker. But with the other string I think we won’t be able to hear each other because it is thin. And if there is a whole in the string or ripped I think we will barely hear each other.

Procedure:
How will we find out?
(Step by step)

You need an small hole at the bottom of your cup ( Plastic ),
Put your string through the hole,
tie the string to an ice block stick,
spread out so you will be able to hear each other,
Make sure the whole is small for the small string because then you will be able to hear each other and if its big you will barely hear each other. But for the thick string you will have to make the whole a bit big so it will be able to fit in,
talk to each other and then test it out.

Results:
What actually happened?

For the thin string we sort of can hear each other only if we speak louder then we will we will hear each other clearly.

For the second string we could hear each other clearly and loudly.

For the last one we made the whole a bit big so we hardly could hear each other.

Conclusions:
What did we learn?
For the first one we learned to spread out and talk and if the hole is big then we won’t barely hear each other.

For the second one we did everything right. If you pull the string you will be able to hear each other clearly.

For the last one we learned to make the hole a bit small.

you can not see the string because it blends with the whiteboard.
